TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION

HISTORY

It was in 1933 that under the direction of the founder's son, Kiichiro Toyoda, Toyoda Automatic Loom Works created a new division devoted to the production of automobiles. He began research on gasoline powered engines after he had travelled to the europe and the United States to investigate on this. Meanwhile the japanese government encouraged the development of automobile production for some of its money requirements. In 1934 it produced the Type A engine which was used in the passenger cars A1 in 1935 and in G1 trucks in the same year.
Toyota the largest automobile manufacturers in the world.
The actual name of the company was Toyada named after the companies founder Kiichiro Toyoda. In 1936 a public competition was conducted by the company to select a new name. One of it was selected but Risaburo Toyoda preffered the name "Toyota" as it took eight brush strokes (a fortuitous number) to write in Japanese, was visually simpler (leaving off two ticks at the end) and sounded better with the two "t"s it had. The newly name was then trademarked and the company was registered in the August of 1937 as the "Toyota Motor Company".
